How to Perform Web Filter Functions in Relay

Allow Site

Web Filter

In the Web Filter interface, you can allow a site through the use of URL Patterns or by recateorizing a site.

Relay

You can allow entire categories under Internet Access > Rules: Categories, just like you would with Database Categories within Web Filter Rule sets. You can mimick the behavior of URL Patterns and recategorizing a site through Relay’s Custom Allowed List, located under Internet Access > Custom Allow List. You can add any site to the Custom Allow List. Sites in the Custom Allow List are never blocked or flagged (as long as you uncheck the box to Allow Flagging.)

Block Site

Web Filter

In the Web Filter, you can get specific user reports by searching by username within one of the many available reports.

Relay

Relay offers highly customizable reporting options. You can run a variety of reports, including Blocked, Flagged, Overriden, Apps, Searches, and YouTube Videos. Each report allows you to sort information by a specific username, which provides you with exact user data.

In addition, the Relay Users section provides incredibly in-depth user information, including any Flagged Content, Website History, Location History, and other details.

Set Override

Web Filter

In the Web Filter, you can set overrides by any identifier (group, ou, user) to override on the Access Page.

Relay

Relay allows you to add Override users. These users will have the option to click an Override button on the block screen, allowing them to override the category blocking the content they wish to access for an amount of time specified in Settings > Blocking.

Customize Block Page

Web Filter

The Web Filter allows you to full customize the Custom Access Page.

Relay

Similarly, Relay also allows you to fully customize the Block Screen, including choosing colors, setting the name, and adding custom text. You can edit the Relay block page by navigating to Settings > Blocking: Block Screen.

Allow YouTube

Web Filter

The Web Filter gives you full YouTube control, with the options to force YouTube strict and moderate modes, and Lightspeed’s new Smart Play mode.

Relay

Similarly to the Web Filter, Relay gives you absolute YouTube control. Relay has an entire section dedicated specifically to YouTube controls. You can access Relay’s YouTube section by navigating to Internet Access > YouTube. Here you can enable or disable a variety of options, including YouTube’s Restricted Mode, blocking age restricted videos, hiding YouTube comments, and hiding the YouTube sidebar. You can also enable or disable YouTube videos by category while maintaining YouTube Allowed and Blocked lists.

Force Safe Search

Web Filter

The Web Filter allows you to force Google and Bing Safe Search, while also providing you with in-depth search reporting by configuting the Web Filter as a proxy server.

Relay

Relay allows you to both force Google SafeSearch and to filter Google image search thumbnails. Both of these options can be toggled by navigating to Internet Acces > Rules: General.

Allowed Referrers

Web Filter

The Web Filter allows you to create Allowed Referrer lists that allow normally blocked content to show where desired.

Relay

Allowed Referrers are currently not available in Relay. We recommend that you allow the domain by URL. You can do so by adding the domain to your Custom Allow List, which can be found by navigating to Internet Access > Custom Allow List.

Custom Block Keywords

Web Filter

The Web Filter allows you to designate certain words as Blocked Search Keywords, resulting in those words being blocked from user searches.

Relay

Relay allows you to add custom words to your Flagged Terms list by navigating to Settings > Flagged Terms (Lightspeed Systems provides you with a pre-populated list of Flagged Terms which you can download and import into Relay.)

Any time a user searches for or accesses a site that contains a flagged term, it will automatically be recorded in the Flagged report, which can be found by navigating to Reports > Flagged. A Custom Block Keywords function is coming soon to Relay.

URL Patterns

Web Filter

The Web Filter allows you to create URL Pattern lists that can override the “allow” or “block” settings for a Database Category in a Rule Set.

Relay

Relay allows you to use wildcards (*) in the Custom Allowed and Custom Blocked lists, which allow you to allow or block entire domains or sections of domains. You can access these lists by navigating to Internet Access > Custom Allow List or Internet Access > Custom Block List.

Recategorize Local

Web Filter

The Web Filter allows you to create Local Categories, which allow you to recategorize our database categories locally.

Relay

Relay does not allow you to recategorize websites, but you can add URLs to the Custom Block and Custom Allow lists in order to maintain proper organization. You can access these lists by navigating to Internet Access > Custom Allow List or Internet Access > Custom Block List.

Proxy

Web Filter

The Web Filter allows you to utilize global, transparent, and selective proxy to manage your traffic.

Relay

You do not need to proxy with Relay as the extension obtains full URL details. You can see all your Relay user traffic by navigating to Reports and selecting one of the many reports.
