Relay Rocket Implementation

Welcome to Relay Rocket!

Relay Rocket provides our latest decryption engine to filter encrypted traffic from your devices not running a Smart Agent (BYOD, IoT, etc). The Relay Rocket acts as a man-in-the-middle proxy to enable the use of features from Relay, including YouTube Smart Play, Image Filtering, and Blocked Keyword Search.

Relay Rocket has the ability to filter individual YouTube videos and filter the video thumbnails. Relay Rocket will pull any modifications from your Relay account, and they will be applied within 5 minutes after any modifications within Relay.

If you would like to use the Relay Rocket, there are a few things you should know about it before you begin implementation.

  • The Relay Rocket is a flexible tool that can be installed as a Virtual Machine or on a dedicated physical server within your network.
  • You can install more than one Relay Rocket on your network(s). There are three reasons you might consider doing this. 1) So you have a backup for the sake of redundancy (recommended). 2) If you have different schools or buildings that you want to apply different policies to (Elementary School vs District Office or High School). 3) You want to use different Relay Rockets for different networks. (For example, one Relay Rocket for your Smart Whiteboards, and another for your BYOD network.)
  • The Relay Rocket can serve as an IP-based filter or as a user-based filter. For user-based filtering you will need to setup authentication. The Relay Rocket is able to use the following as authentication sources, Active Directory, Office 365, and Google. Relay Rocket authentication sources are different from the Directory Integrations that are used in Relay’s Users and Groups, so they will need to be set up separately.
  • For school-owned devices running Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Chrome, we recommend installing Smart Agents for fullest functionality and capabilities.
  • Each Relay rocket installed on your network will require a unique name and DNS entry.
  • Note: The Relay Rocket is part of the Relay Platform, but it requires its own separate license. If you would like to use the Relay Rocket, please contact your account manager, or you can email us at
