The Rocket Web Filter supports RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service) accounting for user identification, which allows the Rocket to act as an accounting server.
RADIUS is a way to authenticate users when they connect to the Internet. You can use the Rocket’s built-in RADIUS accounting server to pass authentication (user name and IP address) from wireless access points.
Step 1 – Configure a RADIUS Client on your Wireless Access Point
- 1. Log into your Wireless Access Point as an administrator, and configure a RADIUS client.
- 2. Add the IP address of your Rocket Web Filter as a RADIUS Accounting Server. If prompted for a port number, enter port 1813. Refer to the documentation for your access point for the necessary steps.
- 3. Make a note of the Shared Secret you entered for the RADIUS client.
Step 2 – Configure an Authentication Source for transparent authentication
- 1. Log into the Rocket appliance.
- 2. Click Web Filter, then click Mobile Devices.
- 3. Scroll down to Authentication Sources and click the green “+” icon. This action opens the following page:
- 4. Click the “+” icon next to the authentication source to use as a transparent authentication source for mobile filter clients.
- 5. Click OK to apply your changes.
Step 3 – Configure RADIUS Authentication
- 1. Click Web Filter, then click Authentication.
- 2. On the Authentication page, scroll down to RADIUS
- 3. Enter the shared secret from Step 1 in the Shared secret field.
- 4. Select the Authentication Source to use for RADIUS authentication.
- 5. Click the Save button in the bottom right corner of the page to apply your changes.
